Plan
your test date well in advance, keeping in mind any other
commitments that you
might have such as preparing for other
college examinations, submitting important class
projects or
preparing assignments. It
is important that you have at least three months to
prepare
for the test. Develop a study schedule for yourself and stick
to it.
Analyze your weak
spots, and budget ample time towards preparing yourself for
the test.
When you give the examination you will tend to be
stressed. Try and relax
yourself before
the paper. A
calm mind will help you think and focus more clearly on the paper
itself,rather
than on the fear of securing a poor score.
It is important that you time yourself.
Complete as many questions as you can within the
time
allocated.
Before beginning the test read the directions
carefully.
In multiple-choice questions if you are unsure of the answer,
begin by eliminating the wrong
choices first. This will enable you to reach the solution faster.
Read each
question very carefully and understand what is being asked.
In the paper based tests you can answer questions in any
order. It would be
advisable to
answer the easy questions first.
This will enable you to spend more time in answering the
difficult questions later.
An
important factor is marking the answers in the paper correctly. Mark
the answer on the
correct line.
Students generally mark the right alternative but on the
wrong line.
The best way to take a test is to be calm.
If you feel the panic rising, stop for a
moment,take a deep
breath and relax. This will soothe your nerves and you will be able
to
answer the paper better.
For computer based tests like the GRE and the GMAT tests you
will not have a choice in
answering a question. You must answer the question that is displayed on the screen. On
the basis of your response, the computer will then pull up
the next question. You must
answer the questions in sequence.
You cannot skip back or forth within a section.
Hence
when you study or prepare at home answer the questions
in sequence.
Students applying for the GRE and GMAT must pay close
attention to the first few
questions.
Remember that the first few questions are heavily weighted.
Take a longer time
to answer the first few questions.
If you answer these correctly you will earn a better
score.
