Standardized
tests are one part of your application that requires minimum legwork
but maximum brainwork. Your
performance on a standardized test will be one of the most important
aspects of your application process.
Each country has a different system of
education. How
would the University determine the eligibility for admissions of an
Indian student or a student from China or Japan or South Africa for
that matter?
The best method is to ask students to take a standardized
test that is common to all applicants.
By taking a standardized test, the admissions committee is
able to gauge the aptitude of a student for a particular academic
program.
Generally
there are differences in the evaluation systems across the
globe. In India for example
educational institutions award a percentage, which determines your
academic performance. In
the United States students are awarded a Grade Point Average or a
GPA based on a four-point scale system.
All
students prepare for common standardized tests and the results
obtained are then easily comparable and enable the admission
committee to make a unbiased and objective decision on your
application file.
Hence to apply to an institution overseas you are required to
take the standardized test as a part of the application
requirements.
