With my profile where do I stand! I am debating between a specialized MS degree and the MBA? I am not sure which country to apply to? The costs seem prohibitive, is there financial assistance? Where do I start? Am I too late?
Ready to evaluate the Universities you would like to attend. Let’s begin with a quick analysis of your profile –academic grades, test scores, work experience, co-curricular activities. Are you a student with consistent above average academic grades? Or have you scored poorly in key mathematic and business courses? Are your test scores above average? On the co-curricular front have you been in positions of leadership? Were you awarded scholarships? Do you have years of full time work experience or is your experience limited to summer jobs and part-time assignments? Your designation and the kind of work you do matters and hence must be taken into consideration.
Next let’s put in place what you would like to look at in a university – Does it offer the program in the term you are interested in? Would you be able to pursue your specialization? Give extra points to the university that is ranked. Add an extra point if the university is in a location of your preference.
Budget, is also an important aspect in university selection. Carefully evaluate the financial capability of your family. Arrive at the maximum figure that your family can afford to spend for your education annually, for the entire period of your education. If you plan to take a loan, do you have assets against which you can raise the required amount? A quick chat with your local bank manager will give you an idea of what kind of assistance you can expect from your bank.
Finally, as a word of caution, welcome advice from friends and relatives, but be careful not to follow it blindly!
