Once you have short-listed the final schools you plan to apply to, it is time to fill up your applications.  The form filling process must be done with complete attention to detail, since the application form tells the admissions committee all your personal and academic information. Forms are best filled in your own handwriting in black ball pen. Some schools may insist that you fill in the forms with a blue ball pen. When a form states “Please Print” it means CAPITALS.

The conservative manner of filling forms has long gone. Now students have the option of filling forms online, the quickest way of filling an application form.  A number of schools offer online application forms.  A few schools may however insist that you pay the application fee online via  an international credit card.   Another disadvantage, you may face is that after submitting a form online it may be very difficult for you to change any information that is already submitted.  You can also download application forms from the website of the university using the Adobe Acrobat Reader.  Undergraduate students can use the common Application form.  

Common Application or Common App as it is popularly known, allows you to complete a single form and then send photocopies to any of the 164 colleges and universities, which accept the common application in lieu of their actual form.  These include elite private institutions such as Harvard, Dartmouth and Duke.  Sometimes one of the participant universities to whom you apply may send you some supplementary forms incase they need further information; this does not indicate that you are late in filing.  

All you have to do here is submit the requested information and fax or mail the document if it is not urgent.  The Common app can be downloaded from http//www.commonapp.org.  The common app will also provide you the information of the application fees and the deadlines for admissions.  Other sites, which are similar in concept to the common-app, and which offer online solutions for other kinds of services are Embark.com, Gradadvantage.com, Multiapp.com

If you are running behind schedule then the only way to meet the deadline is to fill an online application form.  We suggest that you first fill a printed copy of the form before filling out the online form.  This way you have enough time to sort the information you need to submit
