Madhavi Desai Consulting Pvt. Ltd is India’s first and the leading education consulting firm. Earlier known as Universal Consulting, Madhavi Desai Consulting Pvt. Ltd., was founded by Madhavi Desai, who started counseling students from 1986 while she was pursuing her Master's in Industrial Sociology & Management at Purdue University in America. Madhavi Desai completed her formal education with a full scholarship at Purdue University, USA in 1989. Her Master’s Degree in Industrial Sociology focussed on America’s Japanese automobile industry. In 1989 Madhavi had the honor of being invited by the Greenwood Press, New York to publish her thesis in their textbook “The Politics of Industrial Recruitment”. While doing her Master’s in the US, Madhavi was astonished to find several American born Indian students who were not entirely certain why they had selected a particular college over another. Besides meeting several students from India in the same boat, there were students from other Asian countries also who were uncertain about their choice of college! Madhavi was quick to realize that Indians back home were very vulnerable to choosing inappropriate colleges. What made it worse was the fact there were several who did not receive scholarships due to lack of awareness. After completing her Masters in USA she set up the Bombay office in 1989, followed by the Baroda office in 2002. Today the firm has grown to 24 people. It was the first professional organization that envisioned a complete guidance for students who want to study abroad. Besides the USIS (United States Information Services) we are the ONLY Counseling firm in India. The others are tutors who offer "counseling advice" to compensate their revenues that have dropped due to a lot of tutors competing in the market. Unlike other one-stop-shop services that offer tuitions and advice on colleges, we for the last 16 years have focused only on Counseling and have sent over 12000 students overseas. Unlike others we DO NOT GUARANTEE admissions!! Live anywhere in the world and yet you can take our help at the touch of your keypad!! We are among the most successful models of a 'clicks and mortar' firm. Hence even students who do not reside in Bombay can avail of the whole range of our services through Email. In such instances often we may never even meet a student, unless they visit India/Bombay for a holiday ! We have students from all over Bombay, and across several cities in India, and outside India, who enroll with us every year and whom we successfully help gain admissions and possibly financial aid. In these 16 years we have assisted students from 45 different cities in India, 25 different countries, such as China, Bahrain, Oman, Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland, UAE, Qatar, USA, Sweden and UK, to name a few. For the last 3 years, thirty percent of our students have been counselled directly via e-mail, an astonishing achievement for a firm like ours, which does not advertise. We have written for many Indian newspapers: a column on overseas education in Bombay Times, Bangalore Times, Khaleej Times in Dubai/Gulf Region amongst many others. At present Madhavi Desai Consulting writes for the Bombay Times and the Ahmedabad Times. Besides having addressed over 25,000 students in India, we have spoken to approx 3000 students in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat (Oman).

Over the last sixteen years Madhavi Desai Consulting has also reached out and assisted students en masse. Madhavi Desai has conducted several Seminars at the Indo-American Society in Bombay, and has addressed large gatherings at most colleges in Bombay. These seminars orient students about universities abroad and equip them with critical information necessary to handle the application process more effectively. Madhavi continues to address free seminars in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Baroda, Calcutta, Delhi, Coimbatore, Pune and Nagpur. The AEISEC (The International Association of Students in Science and Economics) has invited her to participate in several consecutive career fairs where she held seminars for scores of college students. With these efforts Madhavi has spoken to over 25,000 students and parents all over the world. In 1992 British Airways commissioned Madhavi to write a book “A Student Survival Guide” for students going to America, which was sent to over 3500 students who participated in the all India “Wings of Success” scholarship contest. In 1996 Madhavi Desai was appointed as the India Technical Advisor for the Canadian Consulate in order to ascertain where the Canadian Education Center could set up their offices in India for guiding children aspiring for an education in Canada. Study Abroad Columns - Madhavi Desai’s columns in various Newspapers have been read avidly over the last sixteen years, and some students and parents even have clippings that they have kept over the years. Madhavi has written for the Midday for almost two and half years, the Bombay Times for over two years, and Bangalore Times for about 2½ years, the Khaleej Times, which has a presence in all the Gulf countries, for 2 years, and now writes for the Ahmedabad Times and once again for the Bombay Times.
